3-year guarantee A patio is only as good as what is underneath it. Plenty of Wicklow gardens have a patio that looked lovely for two summers, then started to dip, rock, and crack. Almost always it is the same cause: it was laid on a thin mortar bed with no real foundation. Ours are built to last.
We dig out and lay a proper sub-base, 150mm of compacted MOT Type 1, with full edge restraint, before a single flag goes down. Then we lay Wicklow granite, sandstone, limestone, or porcelain to a true fall so water runs off and not back towards your house. It is more work, and it is why we can give a 10-year guarantee.

We lay natural stone and porcelain patios on a proper engineered sub-base, not a few blobs of mortar, so they do not sink or crack. Porcelain starts at €120/m² and natural stone from €150/m², with a 10-year guarantee on all hard landscaping. A typical 30m² patio runs €4,500 to €6,000.

Patio & Paving: your questions answered
How much does a patio cost in Wicklow?
Porcelain patios start at €120/m² supplied and installed, and natural stone from €150/m². A typical 30m² patio works out between €4,500 and €6,000, depending on the stone and how much excavation the site needs. We quote a fixed price after a site visit so there are no surprises.
What is the best patio material for the Irish climate?
Porcelain and dense natural stone like granite handle Irish rain and frost best, because they absorb little water and resist algae. Softer sandstone looks beautiful but needs more upkeep. We talk you through the trade-offs for your garden and aspect before you choose.
Why do some patios crack and sink?
Nearly always because they were laid on a thin mortar bed with no proper sub-base. Without a compacted foundation and edge restraint, the ground moves and the patio moves with it. We lay 150mm of compacted MOT Type 1 under every patio, which is why ours do not.
Can you lay a patio over an existing one?
We do not recommend it. Laying over an old patio raises the level, often above the damp course, and you inherit whatever was wrong with the base underneath. We lift the old one, sort the foundation properly, and lay fresh. It costs a little more and lasts far longer.
Do you use Wicklow granite?
We do, and it is one of the things we are known for. We source granite and stone directly from Wicklow and Kildare quarries, which keeps the cost down compared with imported stone and means the patio belongs in the Wicklow landscape rather than fighting it.
