Garden Walls and Fencing in Wicklow

Walls & Fencing by Kearney Landscapes in Wicklow and south Dublin 3-year guarantee

A wall or a fence does the quiet work in a garden: it marks the boundary, gives you privacy, keeps the dog in, and frames everything else. Done well it lasts decades and lifts the whole property. Done badly it leans, rots, or cracks within a few years.

We build the lot. For fencing, that means closeboard, feather-edge, post-and-rail, and ranch rail, set on posts that are properly concreted in. For walls, we build block and rendered walls, and we are one of the few crews around still building and repairing traditional Wicklow granite dry stone walls by hand, sourced from local quarries the way they always were.

TL;DR

We build hand-laid Wicklow granite dry stone walls, block and rendered walls, and every type of fence, from closeboard to post-and-rail. Stone walls are one of the things we are known for, sourced locally and built to stand for generations. Walls and fencing are priced per project after a site visit.

How it works

Three simple steps

01

Measure and advise

We assess the boundary, levels, and what you need it to do, then recommend wall or fence options and price them.

02

Set the foundations

Whether stone, block, or timber, we set proper footings and posts, because that is what keeps a boundary standing straight.

03

Build and finish

We build the wall or fence, hang any gates, clean down, and walk the line with you before we leave.

Good to know

Walls & Fencing: your questions answered

How much does a garden wall cost in Wicklow?

Walls and fencing are priced per project, because cost depends heavily on length, height, material, and ground conditions. A hand-built granite stone wall is a craft job and costs more than block or fencing, but it lasts for generations. We give a fixed quote after measuring the boundary.

Do you build dry stone walls?

Yes, and it is one of our signatures. Traditional Wicklow granite dry stone walls are a heritage feature of the landscape, built without mortar so they flex and drain. Few contractors still build and repair them correctly. We source the granite locally and lay it by hand the way it has always been done.

What is the best fencing for the Irish weather?

Closeboard and feather-edge fencing on concreted posts stands up best to Irish wind and rain, especially with a gravel board at the base to keep the timber off the wet ground. We use pressure-treated timber and concrete the posts in, which is the difference between a fence that lasts and one that leans after two winters.

Can you repair an old stone wall?

We can. We rebuild collapsed sections, re-lay loose stone, and repair traditional dry stone and mortared walls, matching the existing stone so the repair blends in. Old Wicklow walls are worth saving, and a proper repair is far cheaper than a full rebuild.

How long does a garden wall or fence take to build?

Most domestic fencing is done in a day or two. Block and rendered walls take longer to allow for footings and curing, and a hand-built stone wall is slower again because it is laid stone by stone. We give you a realistic timeline with the quote.
